Alok Kala, Editor and Publisher of the Gem and Jewellery Information Centre, is a pioneering force who has shaped the narrative of India’s gem and jewellery industry for over four decades. As the driving mind behind influential publications such as Diamond World, Indian Jeweller, and the Journal of Gem & Jewellery Industry, he has built a powerful knowledge ecosystem that informs, connects, and elevates the trade across global markets.

A custodian of industry intelligence, and a champion of innovation, Alok Kala has played a defining role in creating platforms that celebrate design excellence, and foster industry growth, most notably through the IJ Jewellers Choice Design Awards — today regarded among India’s most prestigious jewellery honours.

His contributions extend beyond publishing into building critical industry resources, including landmark directories and handbooks that are widely considered essential references for the trade. He has expanded his publishing footprint with several industry reference standards, including the Diamond Handbook of India, Diamond Handbook of Surat, Coloured Gemstones Handbook of India, and IJ Jewellery Sourcing Directory. A passionate advocate for design innovation, Alok established the IJ Jewellers Choice Design Awards in 2010, now regarded as one of India's most prestigious design recognition platforms.

Committed to the international growth of India’s gem and jewellery sector, he is a regular delegate at key global events, including the World Federation of Diamond Bourses Congress, and International Coloured Gemstone Congress, and major exhibitions across Israel, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Bangkok, the USA, Europe, and beyond.

Having a philanthropic bent of mind, Alok Kala contributes meaningfully to the community, serving as Patron of the Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital & Research Centre. Recognized by leading industry bodies, such as the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), and the Gem & Jewellery Trade Council of India, Alok Kala’s legacy is defined by his unwavering commitment to advancing India’s global standing in gems and jewellery.

Guided by his foresight and leadership skills, he continues to shape the growth of the industry, strengthen its spirit of collaboration, and define its global identity.

Representing the third generation of leadership at Journal House Group, Arpit Kala brings a forward-thinking, innovation-led approach to India’s evolving jewellery ecosystem. With a deep understanding of market dynamics and consumer behaviour, he has consistently redefined the role of media and industry platforms in a design-driven landscape.

Since joining the business in 2008, he has been an early advocate of digital transformation, including the launch of diamondworld.net, one of India’s first integrated online diamond platforms combining global inventory access with content-led engagement.

In 2010, he founded Indian Jeweller Magazine, a future-focused publication that has grown into a strong voice within the trade, blending editorial authority with business relevance.

He is the driving force behind COUTURE India (launched in 2016), an exclusive, invitation-only B2B exhibition that has become the benchmark for curated luxury jewellery shows in the country.

Arpit Kala also leads key industry initiatives such as the IJ Design Awards, celebrating excellence in jewellery design and craftsmanship.

Expanding the group’s vision further, he is now set to introduce a consumer-focused media and content vertical under the brand THE STATEMENT, aimed at shaping conversations around design, luxury, and contemporary jewellery for a wider audience.
